Chicago, IL (November 21, 2024) ― The Global FoodBanking Network celebrates the launch of The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty at the G20 meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  

Spearheaded by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty creates a permanent body beyond Brazil’s G20 presidency that will articulate international recommendations, promote effective public policies, and mobilize resources for evidence-based solutions to hunger and poverty adapted to the realities of each country. It aims to eradicate hunger and poverty by 2030.  

The Alliance is made up of 82 member countries, the African Union, the European Union, 24 international organizations, nine international financial institutions, and 31 philanthropic and non-governmental organizations.  

The Global FoodBanking Network and our food bank partners in more than 50 countries around the world ― including Sesc Mesa Brasil, the largest food banking network in Latin America ― provide an effective solution to both hunger and the environmental harm of food loss and waste. With Brazil’s leadership on hunger and hosting of COP 30 in 2025, we continue to gain momentum and foster support for food recovery and redistribution efforts across the globe.
