CHICAGO, October 9, 2023 — Following the attacks on October 7, 2023, by Hamas on Israel and the escalating conflict in the region, The Global FoodBanking Network issued the following statement from Lisa Moon, president and CEO:
“We strongly condemn the shocking and horrific attacks on Israel. Our hearts go out to everyone who is suffering due to this brutal conflict. We urge all parties to allow for the safe delivery of emergency aid, including food, to civilians in the region.
“Our partner food bank, Leket Israel, is continuing its operations in the northern and central regions of Israel, as they assess the situation and determine how best to help people affected by this crisis. We, at GFN, are in contact with Leket’s leadership and are prepared to provide additional assistance, as needed.
“We hold all civilians, Israeli and Palestinian alike, in our hearts, as we hope for a rapid cessation of violence and a restoration of peace to the region.”
Leket Israel has launched three emergency relief programs in the southern part of the country. These initiatives were developed in collaboration with local nonprofit organizations in response to direct requests from people affected by the attacks to address their most pressing needs.
