The Global FoodBanking Network
FY2024 Annual Report

Back
to top

More than enough food is produced across the globe each year to feed everyone. Yet, last year 1 in 11 people worldwide were hungry – 2.33 billion people faced food insecurity and 733 million were affected by chronic hunger. The rising cost of living, climate shocks, and increasing natural disasters and civil unrest only make the problem worse.

Through all of these challenges …

Our Network of food banks were there, working to get
NOURISHING food to PEOPLE who need it the most,
building strong, resilient communities
AND reducing food loss and waste
for a more sustainable food system and a healthier PLANET.

Our Impact

Food banks connect the dots between hunger and climate. In 2023, GFN member food banks in more than 50 countries . . .

served 40 million people

Over the last six years, GFN members provided food to five times the number of people, from serving nearly 8 million people to 41 million people in 2023.

prevented 1.8 million metric tons of CO2e emissions

By recovering and distributing 654 million kilograms of food in 2023, food banks prevented emissions equal to taking 400,000 passenger vehicles off the road for one year.
